GENERAL MCLANE HIGH SCHOOL: 2
Lady Dogs 2 General Mclane 2 at Townline Road CCYSA Soccer Facitilities
?It was an exciting soccer match at Coyote Field on Townline Rd. as the Ladydogs were able to over come a 2 0 halftime deficit, tie the game in regulation, and survive a no goal that was waved off as time expired.
General McLane was a much improved team. Since the last time the played us, they've gotten two wins over Ft. Lebouf and the Warren Lady Dragons. They did great job of possessing the ball in the first half, and disrupting our flow. Meadville as able to put pressure on them quickly, but unable to finish after well crossed balls or corner kicks. As aresult, the Lady Lancers scored first when Lexie Burrell found Christine Patterson on a through ball that split our outside and center defenders perfectly. Grace Cessna did a nice job of coming out, but she later reflected her angle was off, and Christine hit the ball wonderfully Grace is a mature keeper, and is her biggest critic. We know that we had miscues from offense, all the way back to the through ball that allowed for the shot to get off-we call this tei butterfly effecr, and at any moment that goal could've been prevented
Meadville again put on pressure, but were unsuccessful at finishing. Coach Miller takes a lot of the first half blame for possession because of subbing and switching personnel in a manner that disrupted some of the possession flow of Meadville. Yet we saw a lot from various players who have been working hard at practice. Senior Kayla Boehm continues to play hard and did a wonderful job in the first half of putting pressure on the ball. She, and McKenna DieRienzo were getting passes off to our central players.
Sarah Shabloski, General McLane's goal keeper was able to have a shutout first half, and gobbled up many of Meadville's through balls. She was a definite factor in why Meadville was unable to put more goals because of her altertness
Late in the first half, McLane was able to put on pressure, when Ashley Burrenn was fouled inside the box. Grace Cessna predicted the side correctly, deflected the ball, but the shot was to hard for her to stop. Meadville road out the half with the ball in their end much of the time and the score was 2 0.
The second half was more Meadville's than the Lady Lancers. Meadville changed formation quickly into the secondhalf to beef up their central possession, and it worked The Ladydogs were playing right to left, then quickly changing back. We were finding our Junior Defender Morgan Screck who we put up top because of her success at JV as a stryker. She hit a ball that deflected back, and Senior Karalyn Adams (whose birthday is tomorrow) hit a well struck ball into the net.
Meadville continued to put a lot of pressure and counter attack, but kept coming up short. With just under two minutes left in regulation, GM got a free kick. You could hear their assistant coach yell try the center. Karalyn Adams was able to win the ball, and find Lexie Benak on the outside. Liz Adams made a beautiful overlapping run, which froze the defender. Benak then found Morgan Schreck for the through ball.Schreck just was too fast for their center defender, and before the keeper could drop, Morgan hit a wonderful left footed shot with about a minute remaining.
The game would end in a 2 - 2 tie. Both overtimes were filled with great moments by each team. Each team having corner kicks, but neither side able to finish. Both sides played hard, and GM thought they might have won the game at the last second, however time had expired prior to the shot going off. If we would've been at Barco Duratz, the buzzer would have sounded prior to the shot being released. It was a fair call by the referee whose timer had gone off prior to the shot, GM would've like a European style finish to allow the play in progress, which is understandable, but this is High School American Soccer. Ours is a clock that runs down.
Meadville is now 6-2-1 on the season and travels to Erie on Tuesday for a match agains the Royals.
