Meadville Lady Dogs 4 Mercer Mustangs 0.
Meadville bounced back nicely after their loss to Villa on Tuesday with a 4 0 win over Mercer Thursday evening. Meadville looked sharp with their passing in the first half (something that they lacked with Villa). Alayna Zieziula was able to find Liz Adams with a through ball and Liz kept nice composure and finished with a nice strike to the side of the net. While the Lady dogs passing improved, they left a lot of goals out there. We a lot of corner kicks, some one v ones, but we just came up short finishing. Yet it was nice to see some of the passing come back to us, especially since Wednesday's practice was mostly passing and possessing.
The second goal of the game came from a death blow from Faye Vidoni one yard out after a skipped ball from either Alayna Z or a Mercer Player. Faye likes to finish, and it's good to see her being agressive towards the ball. We were thinking on the sidelines, that the game might get out of hand in our favor, but Mercer came out swinging in the second half.
Mercer had several counter attack opportunities, but Sidney Brown, Mckenna Mercier, Ashley Chess, and Riley Olson did a nice job of getting back to prevent the Mustangs from scoring. We were impressed with the leadership of Grace Cessna in goal, who got to get play the entire game because Nicalette Fuller was ill and unable to play.Other than a couple of glitches, our back line did well, yet we want them playing more possession ball when we have leads.
The two second half goals would come from through balls to Liz Adams, who was a bit upset with herself after missing a couple she felt should have been goals. Karalyn Adams would give her one of the 1 v 1 opportunites, and we think Alayna Z gave her the second We had more opportunities to increase the lead, but we just weren't finishing well. The passing in the second half wasn't as strong, but we did enough to keep the pressure at their end. Coach Ryan does a nice job of keeping his teams battling no matter what the score.
