Monday: Barco Duratz Field in Meadville

The Meadville Girls Varsity team improved its record to 4 and 0 with a 4 0 win over the Erie Royals. 

Meadville caught Erie napping at the start of the game. Meadville had a series of pass backs before Sidney Brown hit a long ball forward that Elizabeth Adams eventually gained control of, and scored the games first goal just 14 seconds into the match!

That would be the only goal of the first half. The game turned into Meadville possessing, taking some average shots, then Erie counter attacking on any mistakes the Lady Dogs would make.

At half time, Coach Miller let his girls know that good just doesn't cut it, and they lacked intensity when it came to finishing. Furthermore, he was concerned that Erie would make Meadville pay for its next mistake. Our center defenders of Mercier and Brown really did a wonderful job tonight making sure that mistake wouldn't happen, especially in the second half. Our defense really stepped it up.

Coach Miller rotated some positions to give his girls different looks to see if different approach angles might help. Karalyn Adams would drive a very hard struck ball at Erie's keeper, who was unable to handle it, and then Jelyn Meinert made her pay with the games second goal. First, it was awesome to see the strike by Karalyn, and second, I couldn't be happier for Jelyn Meinert who is only on her second year of playing soccer. Karalyn Adams would get a chance for a beautiful header that just missed wide, which was my favorite moment of the game. She wanted it and you can't help but love the effort into it, especially the passing that let up to it. Karalyn would get two goals for us, including a pk. However, once again I have to compliment the passing of Alayna Zieziula, who helped us dominate the center of the game. I also need to recognize the effort of Ashley Chess who was all over the field, winning balls, connecting passes, and taking a beating in the process..It was the passing in the center, the rotation of subs, and the improved second half intensity that help to wear down Erie.

Collectively, we had a much better second half, and are fortunate to have a week off to prepare for Villa a well from Tuesday, because we are going to need that type of effort to challenge Villa. This team has the potential to be great, and my job is to facilitate them towards it and be their conscience.
