Girls Varsity Soccer Meadville 1 vs. Wilmington Area HS School 1

Game Date
Oct 21, 2017
Score
BULLDOGS: 1
WILMINGTON AREA HIGH SCHOOL: 5

Senior Recognition day did not fare well for the 8 seniors on the Meadville Roster.

For two seniors, their woes began prior to the game. Senior Karlie Schnauber had her last season game a few weeks ago when she was diagnosed with a broken foot. Then, Thursday night at the annual kid game practice, Senior Lexie Benak Broke her arm, and we are unsure if she will return.

The rest of the senior class of Grace Cessna, Sidney Brown, McKenna Mercier, Karalyn Adams, Ashley Chess, and Kayla Boehm were unable to guide the Lady Dogs to victory, however Coach Miller cannot put to words how proud he is of them, and how much they've made him a better coach. Many many thanks to my graduating class!

The theme of the season continues to plague the dogs, Costly Mistakes, Not finishing, but never give up. Wilmington was able to score first on a long ball just outside the 18 which went unchallenged. It looked like the Greyhounds would only be up 1-0 at half, but then with 20 sec remaining prior to the half, Meadville hit a poorly struck ball by the midfield, and the Greyhounds ate up the poor pass and were able to score off a 1v1 with just 12 seconds left in the half.

Meadville would continue to have mental lapses with poorly passed balls and compounded with poorly positioned defenders and the score would be 4 0 with less than 20 minutes left in the half. We would continue to attack, connect multiple passes, but come up short except for the wonderful series between Liz and Karalyn Adams, who scored the lone goal for the lady dog. Karalyn had several other well hit shots, but they were all near misses.

The Greyhounds would get an additional goal for the 5 1 final score.

The final summary: everyone must be able to step in and pass, defend, and shot at any moment in time. Besides the seniors sidelined, starters Morgan Schreck (concussion) and Faye Vidoni (back) are out, and we are working with others to step in and find a flow that suits them and our counterattack game.

The Lady Dogs play the Warren Dragons on October 30 in a rematch of last years playoff win for the dogs.
